RECENT PROJECT: STANHOPE STREET REGENERATION. Collaboration with New Deal for Communities Team and Newcastle City Council Highways Engineers.

Background : Stanhope Street is an ‘urban village’ with a distinct identity woven together by the residents and businesses of the community. It is a busy commercial area; heavily trafficked by buses, cars and pedestrians; and has a diversity of shops, services and users. The condition of the streetscape was poor and in need of redesign for the betterment of the health, safety and distinctiveness of the area.

The Brief : Stanhope Street is to be transformed into a safer and more engaging area through improvements to the street, buffer zones and improved conditioning of the general environment.
The selected practitioner will consult and collaborate closely with NCC’s Regeneration and Highway Officers, Community and Business Representatives, and other area partners to identify opportunities for integrated works or enhancements that are engaging for significant users.
Particular attention is to be given to the street surfaces, methods for softening and enhancing ‘border areas’ and opportunities for local artists to contribute to the design of amenities, lighting and designated community gathering pockets
